Can you believe it is this time of year already… time for the kids to go back to school. This time of the year for us comes with a little bit of down time for us normally but with the arrival of Hannah and planning for everything that we have coming up in the Fall, I’d have to say it’s been quite busy. Having Hannah and her Mom, Pacita, here has been very rewarding and enlightening. She was a very, very sick little girl and it’s taken her a little longer than normal to get out of the hospital but we are making progress. We appreciate the prayers, the cards people have sent and the phone cards for this family to stay connected to their family back in the Philippines.
We have an exciting Fall coming up with our Foundation and we hope that you will be able to participate in some of our events we have planned including the Fireworks Dinner, the Hearts and Arts –a scrapbooking event that we are teaming up with Art Machine to host and our Let’s Dance for the Heart of It! where we earmark our funds raised for our Healing the World’s Hearts Program. Our hopes for this program is to bring a child from within the United States to Cincinnati Children’s for the next open-heart surgery that we fund.
With our fundraising events we have many needs and if you don’t mind, I am requesting your support and guidance in helping us to make these events a financial success. If you could help us with sponsorships, with promoting these events and even with your participation at the events, we would greatly appreciate it. We’d be happy to sit down and meet with you to go over our sponsorship proposals or send these to you electronically. Everyone associated with the Aubrey Rose Foundation volunteers their time and efforts and because of this, no one receives any compensation and so that allows us the opportunity to put just about everything (minus expenses of course) towards helping children and their families.
On a personal note, Jerry and I got to get away for vacation and relax a little and now we’re getting ready to take Spencer to Eastern Kentucky University for his sophomore year of school. Carly will be a senior at University of Cincinnati and she got a good check-up at the cardiologist a couple of weeks ago. We hope all of you out there who are getting their kids back to school have a smooth transition with getting back in to the routine! As always, we wish you much happiness and especially good health!

Fireworks Dinner on Sunday, August 31
The Aubrey Rose Foundation will be hosting it's first Fireworks Dinner on Sunday, August 31st at the Newport Syndicate. This special evening includes dinner, dessert, open bar, entertainment and a reserved parking space and a fantastic view of the aerial fireworks without fighting major crowds. You might want to hurry up and sign up for this because tickets are very limited so please click here to reserve your spot. It's going to be a BLAST.
Harvest Home Parade, Thursday, September 4
This is the 2nd year we will have a float in the Harvest Home Parade and we welcome all of our present and past Scholarship Recipients to ride on our float. Last year this was really enjoyable for those who participated in this evening and we had a great turnout as well. We understand it's hard sometimes for all of the students to participate because of sports, jobs, etc. but for those that were able to join us, it was a great time and helped to raise awareness about the Aubrey Rose Foundation. Put September 4th on your calendar to come out and watch this long running parade.

Healing the World's Hearts - Hannah Recap
Hannah had her surgery on Tuesday, August 5th. This was desperately needed as her pulmonary valve was only open a pinpoint. The surgeon was able to get that open fully but that didn’t come easy. This hasn’t been the easiest of a recovery for Hannah. She has had a rather rough time of it but was finally moved from the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit after 6 days. She had a miserable night on Monday and they did a chest x-ray and found out that she has fluid around her heart. She had to have a chest tube inserted to drain this.
This
is not really normal and so that has delayed her getting out of the hospital
and I know her Mom is getting a little
concerned about
the ability to return home on their scheduled flight which leaves on
Sunday,
August 24. If they do not leave on the 24th, we cannot secure a flight
out until October! The Philippines where Hannah is from, is close to
China where the Olympics are being held, so September is not an option.
That’s a long, long time to be away from the rest of their family
so please say a prayer that Hannah recovers quickly and can tolerate
the long flight back safely, whenever that flight will be. Click here for
the day by day story.
The "Healing the World's Hearts" program was developed by Aubrey's Foundation with help from Cincinnati Children's Hospital doctors, surgeons and corporate support to provide "simple" heart procedures to sick children in the U.S. and developing countries around the world. We say "simple" heart procedures because these are surgeries which can be performed in the U.S. that can SAVE A CHILD'S LIFE letting them go back home to live a healthy and productive life without follow-up cardiac procedures.
There was a lot of monkeying around on Saturday, July 26! This special themed dinner, "It's Time to Monkey Around!" attracted a packed House including Hannah and her Mom Pacita along with a few families whom we've gotten to know through our different functions at the House including a beautiful girl named Taylor and a very helpful boy named Jeremy! Everyone seemed to enjoy the inflatable monkeys hanging from the ceiling and the monkey hats that we had for crafts.
It's great to see the dining room packed and what's even better is all of the smiles that come from the families who get to enjoy our dinners. Even our many dedicated volunteers who come to help us put on this event are smiling because they know these dinners are priceless. If you would ever like to join in and help us with our themed dinner parties, please send an email to Nancy@aubreyrose.org.
