February is more than just for lovers...

February is American Heart Month

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in our country, so this month- American Heart Month- we are rallying support for HEART for Women Act. This lifesaving legislation will improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and stroke and help millions of women live longer, healthier lives.

The importance of this effort cannot be underestimated.  While mortality from heart disease in men declined 17% over the past three decades, the death rate for women has declined by only about 1% over that same time, resulting in a disparity in heart disease mortality in women.  Today heart disease is the #1 killer of women in our country.

The HEART for Women Act can improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and stroke and help millions of women live longer, healthier lives.  And the more “Red Dress Paper Doll” Petitions we receive from people like you, the stronger a case we can make for Congress to enact this legislation.

Each paper doll petition is another link we can add in a chain of hope that will impress upon our elected officials how much support exists for HEART for Women across our nation.

Add your signature to the chain of hope – sign the AHA“Red Dress Paper Doll Petition” urging your legislators to support the HEART for Women Act!

Ronald McDonald House Themed Dinner Party - It's Fiesta Time!

Saturday, February 2, 2008

We held our Ronald McDonald House themed dinner party on Saturday, February 2 and we had a fun group of volunteers that helped make this dinner so special!

Our theme was "It's a Fiesta" and we had sombrero's for all the children as well as inflatable Mexican decorations hanging from the ceiling.  The dining room looked so festive and the families really enjoyed themselves while dining on our homecooked meal

Our goal for these dinner parties is to rejuvenate the families living at Ronald McDonald House.  We lived in Cleveland and Philadelphia Houses for about 8 months in total so we can understand what these families are going through.  Our mission is to boost these families spirits so they can carry on taking care of their sick child.

A QUOTE FROM A FAMILY WE HELPED AT OUR DINNER

I have been coming to the Cincinnati RMH since March of 2007 and have been able to attend two of the dinners. I just wanted to say thank you and tell you how amazing I think this foundation is. Being so far away from home can be very hard and sometimes I think some of the parents who are new at this game have a hard time talking to other people and kind of stay to them selves but these dinners really help bring every body together and helps families get to know each other and realize that they are not alone. Every one that was helping with the dinner were so friendly, even the children. It was so nice to get out of my room and enjoy a nice meal with people who are going through or have been through the same things that I have. Aubrey Rose defiantly had a purpose on this earth and your foundation is continuing to prove that every day. I live in Virginia and I am a stay at home mom with 2 children, one of which is chronically ill. I would love to be able to help out in any way with raising money or anything that may benefit the foundation. Please let me know if there is anything I can do from Virginia that could help. My daughter and I will be back in Cincinnati in May and if we are here a while I will be looking forward to the next time you come to the RMH.
Thank you,

Aimee

Foundation Wrap Up: Closing Notes

Exciting things are happening !!!

We are coming to an exciting time of the year with increasing the number of families that the Aubrey Rose Foundation will be helping both emotionally and financially.  We are gearing up for our American Girl Fashion Show and also Aubrey's Open Golf Outing which will help fund our Scholarship Program as well as the families with children who have a life-threatening medical condition as well as our Heart Transplant Picnic we host and the other Ronald McDonald House themed dinner parties that will be coming up in April and July and then again in October.

One thing that I would like to point out is that we are in need of a title sponsor for our Aubrey's Open Golf Outing and if you or your business will be able to help us out, please feel free to call Jerry at 513-520-8731.

We just celebrated the 7th year of Aubrey's Foundation on February 10th!  With this comes mixed emotions  - that means that Aubrey has been gone 7 years but it also means that through this Foundation in her memory, she has been able to touch many, many children and their families through the love of her family and so many wonderful people who are helping us in very significant ways.  It's even more exciting that we are ever-growing and being able to fund many more medical bills for families with a child who has a life-threatening medical condition

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and double lungs for being our significant support!

Love to you and your family from our family!

Jerry, Nancy, Carly, Spencer and Saint Aubrey Hollenkamp

George and Nancy Frondorf, Aubrey's Grandparents
